What Do The Numbers Say Ahead of This Friday’s €42 million Eurojackpot Draw
There were 18,588,642 entries into last Friday’s Eurojackpot draw on 20th April, and although the fourth jackpot winner of 2018 wasn’t crowned, there were 727,019 other winners. Ticket holders from many of the eighteen participating countries celebrated matching numbers in various prize tiers, so let’s take a look back at the sixteenth draw of the year and look ahead to this Friday’s draw for €42 million.
€33.7 Million Jackpot Rolls Over
The winning numbers in the Eurojackpot draw on Friday 20th April were 22, 24, 25, 28 and 46, and Euro Numbers 2 and 4. Although the €33.7 million top prize wasn’t claimed, the big winners on the night were German and Finnish ticket holders.
There were three Match 5 plus 1 Euro Number winners of €526,678 each, with two ticket holders from Germany and one lucky player from Finland all just one Euro Number short of landing the top prize. There were also seven Match 5 winners of €79,665 per ticket holder – with three from Germany and two from Finland, as well as one apiece from Denmark and Norway.
Prizes must be claimed within three years of the draw taking place, so players have until Tuesday 20th April 2021 to come forward and claim their winnings from this draw.
How Does 2018 Compare to Previous Years?
There have been three Eurojackpot top prizes won so far in 2018, with jackpot winners coming from Norway, Germany and Finland. The record for the most jackpots won in a year was in 2017, with an incredible 11 top prize winners crowned over the course of those twelve months. However, with over eight months of 2018 still to go, it will be fascinating to see whether this calendar year reaches, or even surpasses, last year’s total.
This Friday’s jackpot may be a 4x rollover, but there’s still some way to go until the number of rollovers surpasses the record for the most consecutive draws without a jackpot win. That record of 12 draws is shared between the periods of Friday 18th May 2012 to Friday 3rd August 2012, and Friday 2nd November 2012 to Friday 18th January 2012. If this current jackpot matches that, rolling over for another eight draws, it’ll be at least Friday 22nd June until the next Eurojackpot top prize is won.
There is a jackpot cap of €90 million in place for Eurojackpot. Once it reaches this value, any additional funds from ticket sales are passed onto the second prize tier instead and the jackpot remains at €90 million until it is won. The jackpot cap has been reached at least once in each of the previous four years. In 2018, it was reached in the draw on Friday 9th February, when a five-person syndicate from Loimaa created history by taking home the top prize, the biggest ever lottery win in Finland at the time. Time will tell whether the jackpot cap will be reached again in the remaining months of this year.
Will You Be This Friday’s Jackpot Winner?
Over 15 million tickets have won a prize in Eurojackpot so far this year, and this Friday’s draw for €42 million is bigger than many other current jackpots around the world, including Canada Lotto 6/49, SuperEnalotto and Irish Lotto. Playing online allows you to safely and securely buy your tickets from the comfort of your own home, so choose your numbers today, and you could be the welcome recipient of the impressive, eight-figure prize.
