Shortly after the draw took place, it was revealed that there was only one winning ticket and that it was purchased in Germany. Although German winners have three years to claim their winnings, the lucky player wasted no time and already came forward. He is from the Duisburg area, in North Rhine-Westphalia, and bought his ticket online. A spokesperson of the online lottery operator has disclosed that the player spent €18.40 on his Eurojackpot entries. The total amount of the first prize is €98,183,614.80.
Lucky Year for Germany
So far, the Eurojackpot first prize has been won seven times since the start of the year. Out of these, five jackpots, including last night's, went to Germany in the draws held on 9th February, 23rd February, 8th March, and 23rd April. The most recent win occurred on 23rd April and the grand prize was worth €120 million, the maximum amount it can reach. The prize was won by two players from Germany and Slovenia, who equally split the winnings. The German 42-year-old player is also from the North Rhine-Westphalia region, making it a lucky location since two of this year’s jackpots were won there.
Germany is also the participating country with the highest number of winners and players who bought tickets there won prizes worth a total of €4.2 billion. You can take a look at the prize statistics as we update them after every draw.
